Our Story

Sustar Woodworks was founded by Ian Sustar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2012. Raised around his father’s furniture studio, Ian developed an early appreciation for the craft before studying engineering and ultimately returning to furniture making. Today, each piece is designed and built in his Milwaukee workshop.

The work is contemporary but grounded in principles that have shaped fine furniture for generations: thoughtful proportion, honest materials, purposeful details, and an equal regard for beauty and utility. Traditional influences inform the work without defining it, resulting in furniture that feels familiar without belonging to a particular period.

Each piece is made individually from carefully selected North American hardwoods using time-honored joinery and construction techniques. These methods are used not for nostalgia, but because they allow furniture to be made with integrity and built for a long life. The result is furniture meant to be used, lived with, and kept.
